The Mighty Mosquito 99 Mile Trail Relay
August 6th and 7th 2016

Description: The Mighty Mosquito is simple really – 30 Teams of 6 runners (or a limited few solo runners) will tackle a 3 loop course with each runner running each loop once. You will run trails the entire time -You will camp with your friends -You will listen to great music -You will have as much fun as you have had at any relay before -Start planning your team!
In typical #TrailsRoc fashion we try to stay well below market pricing -The cost is just $50.00 for Solo runners and $320 for a team But no refunds on this race – Sorry guys
Distance Disclaimer: Each loop you run will be about 5.5 miles – It’s trails – put away the GPS and have some fun out there!
This is a green race – For a 24+ hour relay we want to keep our waste down – The water stations will all be refill only. You must carry your own hydration system – We will provide fluids for you to choose from. The aid station will be for solo runners only.
Volunteers: Each team is required to supply a volunteer upon sign-up that will be part of your team. If you fail to provide a volunteer we cannot accept you into the race. Outside of that we are always looking for help – Email volunteer@trailsroc.org with volunteer or race questions!
Refund Policy – Our normal refund policy is here – Sadly with an undertaking like this there will be no refunds available –
Why These Trails: Mendon Ponds park has everything from major climbs to scenic flat routes around the water. The park is large enough to host 3 distinct loops and to host a weekend long event for our runners!
#TrailsRoc gives back: Because of the many opportunities at Mendon, a lot of races are held here, often with little regard to trail conditions before and after the races. Our profits from this race will be given entirely to a recovery project on these trails. We will be addressing erosion, reshaping trails, and funding many other projects along the trails.
REGISTER HERE
Solo Runners begin at 6:00am – Runners may pick up a pacer after they hit the 50 mile mark. You may use multiple pacers – but only one on the course with you at a time.
Relay Runners Begin at 12 Noon on Saturday – No pacers will be allowed for relay runners.
– Rules and Regulations – Yep – This ain’t one of our normal races so read up on the rules below-
-When you sign up you will pay as a team – $320.00 covers the entire team and all fees. This is the ONLY race we cannot offer refunds and deferrals for. Please keep this in mind when you register your team!
- Registration is simple – The team captain registers and pays for the team. They then enter the team name. Once this is complete they will input emails of the other team members. This will give the team members a link to sign our waiver and input information (emergency contact etc). It’s a simple process – Let us know if you are having trouble.
-You will notice the site requires 7 names at registration – The 7th person (who does NOT pay) is your required volunteer. Every team is required to provide us with 1 volunteer. This person can also act as your personal crew for the weekend when they are not assigned a task, so choose wisely – We will require that volunteer to help with us in a pre-scheduled time.
- You may only switch runners on your team 3 times once registration is complete. All changes must be complete to the teams by July 31st. There will not changing of team members after July 31st
-You will run all 3 laps in the same order – every runner completing 1 lap before moving on to the next.
-Example: LAP 1 – runner 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, run in order. when runner 6 finishes lap #1 Runner one then begins Lap #2
-Each runner will exchange in the exchange zone. You will be wearing a colored snap bracelet on your run. The color of the bracelet is the color of the flag markings you will follow on the course.
- All night time hour runners will be required to wear and use a headlamp – No headlamp, no running. We also suggest a blinking red light to be worn on the back.
-In case of an injury, one of your runners is able to run an extra lap in each loop. They may not run 2 laps in a row.
-The final exchange time will be Sunday at 10:00 am. Teams not finished by 12:00pm will be ranked in order of how many total laps they have completed.
-There is no “ultra” option. You must start the race with 6 runners and 1 volunteer.
Why these trails: Mendon Ponds Park hosts more trail races than any other trail system in the area. Hopkins Point park is the perfect home base for this event – With all of the races (including ours) being hosted in this beautiful park we will be using this race to make a large donation to the Monroe County Park trail budget!

I see that you are offering a solo option. Any chance you would allow a pair to complete the race? No interest in prizes/awards or being included in a category, just two runners wantingto challenge themselves with the 50 miles.

Hi Lauren – The age requirement for MM99 is pretty simple – Runners under 14 must have someone with them for any night time legs – and any other young runner will have a parent signed waiver.

how close to 5.5 miles will each loop be .I heard last year the last loop was cut short for a faster finish time by the last runner.
